2023 JMU Transfer One Book

Foreign Language Placement Exam You must take the Foreign Language Placement Exam if all four of the following statements are true: ◆ You are pursuing a program of study that leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree or a Bachelor of Business Administration degree that requires a foreign language (see list on right); and ◆ You have not taken a language at another college; and ◆ You have taken two or more years of French, German, Italian, Russian or Spanish in high school; and ◆ You have not taken the SAT II in that language. If you have taken a language at another college, talk to your academic advisor to see what credits transfer and to find out if you need to take the exam. You are not allowed to use outside sources (includ- ing friends or family) on the exam and you may take the exam only once per language every three semesters. There isn’t a time limit, so please take your time! For more information check out jmu.edu/langcenter/flpe.

* These programs provide the option to pursue either a Bachelor of Arts degree or a Bachelor of Science degree. B.S. programs

as a rule do not have foreign language requirements, so do not take the exam unless you want to continue your language study at JMU. Each program has different requirements. If you are not sure which degree program to pursue, it is best to take the exam now to stay on track with program requirements.

JMU Honor Code Academic integrity is a serious matter at JMU. Suspension or expulsion are possible penalties for violating the Honor Code. Cheating, copying, plagiarizing, improper citations and buying or using papers written by someone else are a few examples of violations that have the potential to jeopardize your status as a student. When you take placement exams (ALEKS Math and Foreign Lan- guage), you are bound by the JMU Honor Code. We want you to have a successful experience and it is imperative that you are in the right class for that to happen. Complete the test at jmu. edu/honorcode/test.shtml by Oct. 1.
