What does UPB do? UPB is a student-run organization that brings a variety of entertainment and educational programs to JMU, such as bands, comedians, movies, local talent and much more! What type of events does UPB bring? • Concerts: Jesse McCartney, Big Sean, Jason Derulo, Canna Smith, T-Pain, Two Friends • Comedians: Jimmy Tatro, Girl Code Comedians, David Koechner, Dave Coulier, Michael Ian Black • Movies in Grafton-Stovall, Movie on the Lawn and Advanced Screenings • Late Night Breakfast • Rumble Down Under Who can attend UPB events? All students are invited to attend. Some events are free for students and others require students to buy tickets. What does UPB offer? UPB offers students a one-of-a-kind learning opportunity. UPB members can gain hands-on experience with event planning, gain exceptional leadership skills that can transfer into future careers and make great personal and professional connections. Find your place with us while making a big difference. How can I get involved? UPB holds membership events each semester. All students are also encouraged to apply for executive board in early spring to take on more of a leadership role. Prior participation in the organization is not a requirement to get involved! What are the UPB committees? • The Executive Board: The Executive Board of the University Program Board is composed of the Leadership Team, the Marketing Team and the Program Directors, all described below. • The Leadership Team: The Leadership Team is composed of five leadership positions: President, Vice President of Administration and Finance, Vice President of Membership, Vice President of Marketing and Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for Programming, who all serve on the Executive Board. • The Amplify Committee: Led by a Program Director who serves on the executive board, this team searches for big name acts for concerts that will be of interest to the JMU community. Then they get to research, plan and promote one large scale concert per semester. They are also responsible for planning and implementing small-venue musical acts and seeking out student musicians to showcase their talent in events such as Karaoke and Open Mic Night. • The Spirit and Traditions Committee: Led by a Program Director who serves on the executive board, this team brings programming events such as Funny Freakin’ Friday and Late Night Breakfast among other events. They also work closely with some traditional campus events like Homecoming, the Intercultural Greek Council Step Show and Parents Weekend. • The Special Events Committee: Led by a Program Director who serves on the executive board, this team plans and implements unique events including novelty, educational programs, bus trips and co-sponsored events. Some examples of events they have put on in the past include carnivals, events centered around holidays and large fun attractions like ice skating and free tattoos and piercings.
