What are my on-campus housing options? Residence halls at JMU are located in one of five areas on campus: Bluestone, Hillside, Lake, Village and Skyline. • The Apartments on Grace Street house upperclass students. This apartment style building is located near the Forbes Center, Memorial Hall and the Quad. • The Bluestone area: Converse, Gifford, Harper Allen-Lee, Hoffman, Logan, Spotswood, Wampler and Wayland Halls. These halls are located primarily in the front or upper side of campus and are conveniently located near many academic buildings and dining facilities. These halls reflect a traditional design with long open hallways and rooms off each side of the main corridor. Many of these rooms have high ceilings and spacious living quarters. • The Hillside area: Bell, Hillside and McGraw-Long Halls. These halls are located on the north side of campus. All three halls have lounges, kitchens and recreation rooms. These facilities are located with convenient access to the Student Success Center. • The Lake area: Eagle and Shorts. These halls are convenient to Godwin and College of Business Learning Complex, Bridgeforth Stadium and UREC. Eagle is an eight-story residence hall, which houses first-year students. Shorts houses first-year students. These are located on the West side of the lake. • The Skyline Area: Chesapeake, Chandler, Paul Jennings and Shenandoah located on the East Side of campus. These halls are convenient to the ISAT academic buildings, the Festival, East Campus Dining Hall, UREC and the Atlantic Union Bank Center. There are lounges on each floor, each with a different purpose such as quiet study, group study, TV lounge, etc. • The Village area: Chappelear, Dingledine, Frederikson, Garber, Hanson, Huffman, Ikenberry, Weaver and White — located in the center of campus. These halls are especially convenient to athletic facilities, UREC and Mister Chips. These halls are very similar in design and structure. Each hall is divided into three separate housing sections. Each section features six-person suites of three double rooms with a common lounge. What services are available in the residence halls? • Vending areas • Kitchens • Computer labs in some halls • Wireless Internet • Ethernet connections are available in all rooms for each resident • Laundry facilities — each residence hall is equipped with a laundry room containing washing machines and dryers. All laundry equipment is JACard or coin operated. • Study lounges — In order to complement the academic character of the residence halls, areas are designated and equipped to serve as study lounges. Study lounges are located in every hall and are separate from TV lounges and lobby lounges and should be treated as 24-hour quiet areas. • Phones – All residence halls have courtesy telephones provided at several locations throughout the building. Land line telephones are not provided by the university but can be requested from Telecommunications. Who staffs and provides support in the Residence Halls? • Resident Advisers: experienced students who live on each floor or section of a residence hall. Your RA is a convenient source of information and assistance. An RA assumes many roles in working with residents: resource and referral, activities organizer, administrator, policy
