Mail Services jmu.edu/mailservices
What is the JMU Post Office? There is no direct delivery service to the residence halls. Each residential student gets assigned a box at the JMU Post Office. Your housing address and mailing address are different. Your personal mail, magazines, packages, etc. should be sent to your mailing address. Packages are accepted at The Union on behalf of the students. Courier service is available for a fee upon request for packages too large for student pickup. What services does the Post Office offer? • A fully functional Post Office serving the entire JMU community • A wide variety of mailing supplies, USPS and UPS shipping services, fax services, etc. • Outgoing drop-off location for prepaid labeled USPS, FedEx and UPS packages • Perishable items or medication requiring refrigeration will be refrigerated until pickup How do I find information about my post office box? Students can access their box number and combination on MyMadison under Student Center Personal Information in Local Addresses. Due to strict regulations we do not give information out over the phone. Where is my mailbox? Mailboxes are located in The Union, 2nd floor. Mailbox locks work opposite of your typical combination lock and have an extra turn at the end. Report any issues to Post Office personnel at the customer service window. We encourage students to check their box at least once a week. Before leaving your mailbox, be sure the door is closed and spin the dial to the left How do I receive a package? There is no direct delivery service to the residence halls, so all packages addressed to you will be accepted at The Union. Student mail is delivered between 10a and 4p, including deliveries from major carriers throughout the day. Packages too large for mailboxes or that are sent with tracking information are checked into our computer system and students are notified via email. Students will swipe their JACard through a kiosk located in the lobby area of the post office to verify they have a package. Student JACard, mobile ID or a picture ID is required in order to pick up the package. Please allow at least two hours after receiving your confirmation email to pick up your package for processing. The volume at the beginning of each semester is extremely high for packages, please allow an extra day for processing and delivering during this time period. We do offer extended weekday pickup hours during the first two weeks of each semester to compensate for the higher volume levels. *Note: Any outgoing mail received after 4p will be postmarked the following business day. All outgoing UPS packages are picked up Monday through Friday at 3p. What is the best way to send medication? When sending medication and items needed to be guaranteed delivery please use and overnight carrier and NOT the USPS. Next Day Delivery through carriers such as UPS and FedEx is guaranteed delivery to our site. Next Day through the USPS because of delivery times may just be delivered to the local USPS office and require an additional day for us to obtain.
