Make an appointment for individual sessions with trained multilingual peer educators to: • Work through ideas • Start, work on, or review the language you want to use in assignments from all disciplines and levels • Discuss questions about multilinguals in JMU’s academic culture • Share language identity concerns • Seek linguistic advocacy with faculty University Writing Center We empower students to develop writing skills and confidence by providing consultations, resources, and workshops. Some of the issues our writing consultants can help you overcome include: • Writer's block • Procrastination and writing anxiety • Understanding your assignment or your professor’s feedback • Brainstorming and finding a topic • Understanding audience and purpose • Developing a thesis • Incorporating sources effectively • Revising for coherence and organization • Editing for clarity and conciseness • Using MLA, APA and Chicago formats • Understanding grammar, punctuation, and usage • Developing revision strategies • Drafting and revising a group-written assignment Peer Assisted Study Sessions PASS is a peer-facilitated academic support program that targets courses that historically have high rates of lower grades to improve student performance and retention. Led by peer leaders, students work together in regularly scheduled out-of-class study sessions to master course content and develop their organizational, study and learning skills. Science and Math Learning Center We reinforce learning and assist students in their first- and second-year math and science courses. • Visit the SMLC website for supported courses • The SMLC offers a computer lab which includes SPSS.
