Teacher Licensure All JMU teacher education programs are designed to meet a vital and nationwide need for trained and committed teachers. Many of JMU’s teacher licensure programs can be completed in 4 years through completion of an undergraduate major and some can be completed in 5 years through completion of a combined Bachelors and Master of Arts in Teaching program.

To gain the skills needed for this challenging profession, some programs require additional content, such as a second major or minor. In the 4-year licensure programs, students will be eligible for their teaching license at the end of their undergraduate career. Students could choose to apply for and participate in a Master of Education program after the completion of the 4-year licensure undergraduate program.
