2023 JMU Transfer One Book

Orientation Reservation & Declaring a Major Don’t miss Transfer Orientation! It’s one day when you meet your academic advisor, connect with other transfer students and engage with your Orientation Peer Adviser. Orientation Transfer Orientation dates are granted on a first-come, first-reserved basis. We encourage you to complete the required steps as soon as possible to have access to your preferred date. Our on-campus dates are June 12, 13 and 14. If you need a virtual option, please contact Orienta- tion and Transition at 540-568-1787 to discuss details. If you are unavailable for any dates, please mark Unable to Attend in the step. Detailed schedules for the day will be available on the Orientation and Transition website in June. This step must be completed to be able to enroll in fall classes. You will receive an email once the step is submitted fully as well as an event reminder a few days prior to your reserved day.

Disability accommodations If you or your guest need accommodations during Ori- entation, please submit your request in the Disability Accommodations section of the Reservation step at least 10 business days before your reserved date. You will receive a confirmation email once it has been received. Orientation fee All new students are charged $200, regardless of atten- dance at Orientation. This fee covers your Orientation day, Weeks of Welcome and other transition programs. You don’t have to pay the Orientation fee now; but, if you have an installment payment plan, make sure your budget includes this charge. Directions to parking Look for yellow parking signs to find general and accessi- ble parking in the Mason Street Parking Deck (715 South Mason Street) on levels 3-5. Be sure to avoid parking in reserved Hotel Madison and metered parking spaces, indi- cated by signage. When you approach Harrisonburg, tune your radio to 1610AM for announcements about Orientation, traffic and parking directions. Once parked, please enter the Stu- dent Success Center via the sky bridge to check in.

Families need Orientation, too! While you’re meeting with your academic advisor, your family members will attend sessions about services and resources to best support you. Register up to two family members to attend in this step.
