Connecting to the internet JMU’s residence hall network gives students access to email, MyMadison and online resources from their room. There is wireless access for multiple devices per occupant. The installation of personal routers and hubs is prohibited. Check the Quick Start Guide to register for an account before coming to campus. Should I bring my own computer/printer? Yes, you should bring a computer from home, as long as it meets minimum specifications and is set up securely. There are also more than 500 computers in labs available to all students, including two 24/7 labs and three assis- tive technology labs. The labs offer printing, as well as free access to a wide variety of software to complete class assignments or conduct research. Windows or Mac? Visit JMU’s Computer Recommendations for Incoming Students at https://www.jmu.edu/bookstore/computers/ recommendations.shtml to see which operating system and computer configuration is best for your major. Tech needs? The Madison CyberZone, within the Bookstore, offers computer systems, software and peripherals at special academic pricing. The CyberZone also provides computer hardware and software recommendations by major. The CyberZone partners with JMU Information Technology and academic departments to make sure all of its comput- ers meet class requirements. CyberZone systems meet or exceed recommended specifications and receive on-cam- pus warranty service.
