You selected your room, you have your roommate, now what? Touch base with your roommate so you can plan for your room. Find out who is bringing what or plan to shop together once you are here. You can bring several items to help make your room feel like your home. Coffee pots with automatic shut-off, desk lamps and digital cable-ready televisions are all fine to bring. You can also bring curtains or tapestries as long as you treat these items with fire retardant when you bring them to campus. Staff will have fire retardant spray you can use on move-in day. Most first-year students bring too much with them. Be ready to leave some of the stuff at home! Can I get specific information about what my space looks like? Since there are more than 3,000 rooms on campus, it is impossible to provide information about specific rooms. However, you can check out our virtual tours of the room types on campus: https://www.jmu.edu/ orl/our-residence-halls/tours.shtml There is even a measuring tool provided! Are my personal belongings insured? The university cannot be held accountable for loss, damage or theft of any student’s personal property. Plan to carry your own insurance coverage. Your fam- ily may already provide coverage or you can arrange for personal property insurance through a private agency.
