Thriving at JMU Good time management is one major key to suc- cess in college. You will receive a syllabus for each class that lists out the dates for every assignment and exams. From there, identify your responsibilities and prioritize these by day and by week. Here are a few tips to keep in mind as you begin to plan out your semester: Preparing for classes ◆ Visit your classrooms before classes begin. ◆ Get organized! Get a calendar or planner and write down all exam dates, due dates for papers, class meet- ings and study sessions.

Personal health and wellness ◆ Practice healthy habits including a balanced diet, ade- quate and regular sleep and responsible decisions. ◆ Visit UREC. Participate in an outdoor adventure, play walleyball, sign up for a fitness class, an intramural team, etc.

Effective relationships ◆ Spend time with positive, motivated people who share your desire to learn, grow and succeed. ◆ Listen carefully. ◆ Get to know your professors by visiting them during office hours or talk to them after class. ◆ Communicate with your academic advisor.

Develop your personal identity ◆ Examine your own values, beliefs, assumptions, experi- ences and goals. ◆ Talk to as many people as you can. Find out what you have in common.
